Yes, some things.... matter.

An unpopular subject to most people in the 21st century is, the subject of ultimatums, requirements and essentials. These are terms that don’t set well with the independent mind set of most people…  you know, start telling me what I HAVE to do and I’m outta here. Well, rest assured no one is going to force anyone to do anything; we couldn’t even if we wanted to, that isn’t even our goal. But our goal is to educate people so they can make intelligent decisions based upon knowledge and not just a shot in the dark. There IS no excuse for ignorance. So you being here today, you are doing your due diligence, congratulations.

In our studies, we try to show the reasons why.

We try to convey that God doesn’t ‘send people to hell’, they’re headed there anyway without his help; that is why HE took on the form of man, and gave his life as the lamb slain from the foundation of the world, so that we could be SAVED from a devil’s hell. HE paid the ultimate price for us, so we wouldn’t have to face judgment

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Think about  Noah for a moment. Judgment was coming to the earth, but God gave Noah a way to escape the coming judgment.  Yes, I know, someone says, ‘why does there have to be judgment at all?’ Good question; the short answer is, because God cannot and will not lie, neither can he transgress His own commandments, and the scripture is clear, the soul that sinneth it shall die; so God has made a way to escape this judgment IF a person wants to.

Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the Lord 's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear

It’s kind of like this…. As much as I love my dogs, if they’re out romping on the ranch, and one decides to go roll in a big cow pie (cow-ven Klien or, ‘eau du poo’)… and she comes back to me covered in fresh  slimy green cow dung, I am not going to receive her to myself… I mean, I am not going to load her up in my vehicle and let her  ride with me covered with all that filth! She is oblivious of her filthy state! Now let us think about our sinful nature and the pure nature of God, again:

Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the Lord 's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear

Next to the all knowing God, (sometimes) we’re like the dog oblivious of our stench; oblivious of his sinful state! We don’t get it! God said through the prophet Isaiah in the 1st chapter:

“the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. 6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment

And God says, in verse 16:

16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; 17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool

So he wants to save mankind… but just like the person that is in the burning house, if he wants to be saved, it demands action! He wants our involvement!

James 2:14  What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15  If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16  And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17  Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18  Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20  But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21  Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22  Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23  And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24  Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 25  Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 26  For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

So again, God wants our involvement… our participation. And the first part of participation is simply to learn.

Let us look at a few ‘essentials’:

Gen 2:8  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9  And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10  And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11  The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12  And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13  And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14  And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. 15  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Sounds pretty important to me! There was a reason for all of this! But one has to study to be able to understand the ‘why’!

Genesis 17:10  This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. 11  And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. 12  And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.  13  He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14  And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

God is saying, ‘you want to be in the covenant, you have to do it my way.

Exo_28:35  And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not.

Exo_30:20  When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:

Exo_30:21  So they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.

Lev_8:35  Therefore shall ye abide at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation day and night seven days, and keep the charge of the LORD, that ye die not: for so I am commanded.

Lev_15:31  Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.

Lev_16:2  And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

Lev_16:13  And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:

Does God have his reasons for these requirements? Yes he did. And unless we study this we’ll never understand why.

Let’s move on to the New Testament:

John 3:1  There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2  The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

So… some things do MATTER. Does it matter if a person is baptized? Does it matter HOW a person is baptized? Does it matter if a person has the Baptism of the Holy Ghost or not? What IS the Baptism of the Holy Ghost? What about speaking with other tongues? Is there one God or multiple gods? Is God a trinity? Out of all of this, WHAT MATTERS and WHAT DOESN’T MATTER?

We try to answer these things in a quick, intelligent way. We understand you only have so much time, and that it is valuable, and with the glut of information out there, we have no other choice but to be selective in how, where we spend our time.

2Timothy 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

That’s why we’re here. This is Christ, and this is you. Christianity Youniversity. Thank you for being with us. May God bless you in your search for answers.
