Grapes of Thorns, Figs of Thistles

Grapes of Thorns, Figs of Thistles

If in fact the bishops assembled at the Council of Nicaea represented the true body of Christ, then how can one argue that Catholicism is not the true, original church? And even more preposterous is, that this corrupt entity that became the political power of western civilization masquerading as the body of Christ, the church, through the Middle Ages, and eventually people woke up and realized how corrupt it was, breaking away in the 1500's into hundreds of denominations. If all of that is so, then in reality, the Catholics are right - all of these denominations in fact came from Catholicism, and indeed Catholicism is 'mother church'!

From the 'Oneness' apostolic viewpoint, (relegated as a cult by those who accept the above Nicene dogma) the true church, the true body of Christ, the church triumphant - that faced persecution from its very inception, became adept to living and existing underground, and stayed underground. Sounds preposterous? But is quite biblical. Can anyone cite scripture for the masses to convert? On the contrary, Jesus said:

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

So the 'few' stayed faithful to the faith once delivered to the saints.

In staying faithful, they didn't get involved in the circus act that was coming to town. They rejected the novel concept of a triune godhead in the 3rd century when Tertullian first coined the term. Tertullian even admitted in his thesis, 'Against Praxius', that the majority of believers did not accept his novel concept. Thus, the bishops that assembled in Nicaea and went on to become the lackeys of the emperor, and won the orthodox title of 'universal' or 'katholica', never was the church. How do we know this? Those looking for a 'golden chain' that is directly connected to the apostles ought to sift through the ashes of the persecuted, as this 'state sponsored church' had centuries to destroy the evidence. Notwithstanding this policy of 'damnatio memoriae', historians claim that at any given time, up to 10% of the populace just said 'no' to Rome (Norman F. Cantor, "Civilization of the Middle Ages).

The most convincing evidence is scripture itself, the innumerable prophecies that Jesus and the writers of the New Testament wrote about concerning apostacy. There were 225 years that transpired from the death of the last apostle (John, in approximately 100 AD) to the infamous council in 325 AD. A lot can happen in that period of time. My common sense tells me the changes that took place among Christian leaders from time of the Edict of Milan or the 'legalization' of Christianity in 312AD to 325 AD was cataclysmic.

William Langland would pen these words in his book 'Piers Plowman' a thousand years later, in the 1,300's:

“When the kindness of Constantine gave Holy Church endowments

In lands and leases, lordships and servants,

The Romans heard a angel cry on high above them,

“This day dos Ecclesiae has drunk venom

And all who have Peter’s power are poisoned forever.”

And are we to believe this was the true church? I am reminded of the story 'The Emperor's Clothes' by Hans Christian Anderson. In this case, the emperor and all the bishops.... are stark naked.

What developed even before this council was simply not the right fruit:

Matthew 7:16-20

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

All one needs to do is look at a Catholic depiction of this trinity of persons - to know this is NOT the right fruit.

And that is just for starters. From here, we can add a dirty laundry list of other man made dogmas: prayer for the dead, prayer TO the dead, relics, mariology (and all the fables and absurd demonic visions connected with it which is blatant necromancy), infant baptism, baptism by sprinkling, celibacy, monasticism, the mass, purgatory, penance, apostolic succession, the papacy, auricular confession, indulgences, transubstantiation, and the list goes on, not the least of was the brute force with which these dogmas were enforced. All of which are grapes of thorns, figs of thistles.

I also often ponder how this 'triune godhead' espoused by Gentile leaders must have set with the Jews especially, wishing to retain true monotheism. I reject the idea that Israel did not know the essence of their God - true, during apostasy they did not recognize their messiah was Jesus - but in their glory days of David, was a triune godhead hid from them? Preposterous. But a triune godhead - the old Babylonian godhead - would be fomented on them from Gentile leaders. This makes no sense.

Whereas the apostolic message is pure simplicity. God wrapped himself in human flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus was both God and man; humanity and deity. As man, he hungered; as God he fed the multitude. As man he prayed; as God he answered prayer. As man he suffered and died; as God he raised himself from the dead. Most confusion of understanding the godhead is not understanding the fleshly nature of Jesus. But it is simple!

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Colossians 2:8-10

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

1 Corinthians 12:4-6

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

Administrations, yes. Manifestations, yes. Persons? Yikes! That's Babyonian!

In the flesh, the mighty God in Christ came unto his own and preached a simple gospel message that boils down to his death, burial and resurrection, easily identifiable in the first covenant as the brazen altar, brazen laver and the holiest of holies, as well as in our own lives as repentance, water baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38). The pattern couldn't be plainer:

Luke 24:46-47

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Acts 1:8

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The Holy Ghost that Jesus was referring to was none other than himself - clearly not a 'third person' of a triune godhead!

John 14:16-18

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

What could be clearer than that? Jesus, in the flesh, refers to the eternal deity as the Father. And the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, is none other than Jesus himself!!

And the eloquent answer to the Jews after hearing the preaching of the one Jesus had entrusted with the keys to the kingdom - sums up the gospel! Peter USES the keys:

Acts 2:37-39

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

And this would be the pattern for all people for all times - in the 1st century as well as the 21st century! Indeed this New Testament church was complete and needed no embellishment of man made dogmas. It behooves us today to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Don't settle for grapes of thornes and figs of thistles.... !!

I implore good, sincere people to use their common sense and reject this flagship doctrine of Babylon!
